Obituary of Michael J.P. Malone

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael J.P. Malone III, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly on April 11, following a day at The Masters, watching an event he cherished.

Born on August 3, 1950, in Bronxville, New York, Michael was the son of the late Anne Connors Malone and Michael J.P. Malone. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Malone, and is survived by his sisters, Michele Byrnes and Patricia Malone Chin.

Michael is survived by the love of his life, Beverly Stevenson Malone, who he married on August 10, 1974 — they shared nearly five decades of marriage together.

Michael attended Iona Prep in New Rochelle, where he graduated in 1968, having been a standout member of the undefeated football team during his senior year.

He continued his education at Colgate University, where he majored in English, was captain of the Rugby team, and graduated in 1972. After college, Michael taught English at Iona Prep. He went on to earn his law degree from Fordham Law in 1977, where he was an editor of the law review.

After completing his legal education, Michael clerked for Judge William Hughes Mulligan, Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then embarked on an illustrious legal career as a highly respected litigator until his retirement from the law firm of King & Spalding.

Michael's greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Michael J.P. Malone (Megan), Brendan James Malone (Jennifer), Beverly Malone Fleming (Alexander), and Christopher Madison Malone. His legacy lives on through his ten adoring grandchildren, all of whom reside in Darien, Connecticut: Molly, Caroline, Jack, Harrison, Maggie, Samantha, Charlotte, Brooks, William, and Susannah.

Michael was an avid golfer and student of the game. He was a long-time member of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York and the Jupiter Hills Club in Florida.

A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, where friends and family will come together to honor his memory and celebrate the profound impact he had on all who knew him.

Michael J.P. Malone III will be remembered for his intellect, his integrity, his passion for making the most out of every day and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Post 53 EMS in Darien, CT.
